Living Places 2026: 10 Years Inhabiting Architecture
20 Feb
The Living Places - Simon Architecture Prize returns in 2026 with its 6th edition, celebrating ten years of a project that has consistently placed lived experience at the center of architectural discourse.
Since its launch in 2016, Living Places has explored architecture not only as a built object, but as a space inhabited over time. By pioneering video as the main submission format, the Prize has promoted a narrative approach capable of conveying atmosphere, use, temporality and everyday life within architecture. Over the past decade, this commitment has resulted in an archive of more than 200 films, documenting diverse ways of living and experiencing space across different contexts.
This special edition coincides with a significant milestone: Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture UIA–UNESCO. Simon, sponsor of this international recognition, reinforces its commitment to architectural culture through the Living Places Prize, whose events will form part of the official programme. This alignment strengthens the Prize’s international relevance while reaffirming Barcelona as a global platform for architectural reflection and exchange.
As preparations begin for this new edition, the Prize continues to evolve, expanding its reach and consolidating its role as a reference in the exploration of architecture through lived experience.

el luchador
30 May
On May 29th, we had an amazing evening at the 5th Living Places edition kick-off event. One of the highlights was the unveiling of the official video for this edition, created by Rene Baptista, Tito Sánchez, and RA!Arquitectos.
In the last edition of Simon Architecture Prize, RA! received a special mention for their video of the project "Taqueria Los Alexis" in Mexico City, being recognised as "Best Audiovisual Narrative". Thanks to this achievement, the studio has been selected to create the launch video for the new call for entries, entitled "El Luchador" (The Fighter). The story takes place in a historic building, the Taller de Arquitectura of Agustín Hernández in Mexico City, where a young dreamer enters to live out his greatest fantasy: to become a wrestler, while facing unexpected events. Featuring professional wrestler Guerrero Aguila Tule, the short film highlights the power of dream spaces to make the wishes of their inhabitants come true, through an exceptional narrative.

la macarrona by fernando higueras at casa de la luz
27 Sep / 19:30H
La Casa de la Luz opened its doors in March 2022 as a showroom in the centre of Madrid, integrating itself into the Princesa building that Fernando Higueras built, in collaboration with Antonio Miró, between 1967 and 1975. At the same time Side Gallery acquired La Macarrona, the house that the famous architect built between 1971 and 1976 in Somosaguas, to give it a new life.
On the occasion of the participation of the Casa de la Luz in the Open House Madrid 2023, Living Places - Simon Architecture Prize brings the experience of Side Gallery founder Luis Sendino in a three-way conversation with the artist Guillermo Santomà and Maite Sebastiá about the process that is being developed in the work of the master Higueras to become the new headquarters of the gallery in Madrid.
