A family was looking for a new home that is able to represent their trips around the globe, their desire to live in a garden, and to embody the cinematic diversity of domestic life. The domesticity that the client was depicting consisted of a variety of very different situations: From the Exotic Caribbean to the tics of Modern Space, from transparency to intimacy, or from internationality to the local flavors. The Tobogan House is a generic three-story house that in represenatation of the client way off life, juxtaposes two houses and a void that houses a car park. An argument that constructs a tracking shot between a garden, a folie and a picturesque grotto, all while crossing through the lounge, sauna-fitness center, bar, dining room, and kitchen. One of the houses is organized to inhabit the soil with its habits and the client routines. The other is made light-heartedly, emancipated from the ground, and flies at a double height over the garden. Here is were the individual life of the family members is developed. The scenic load of the patio is achieved through the exposure of domestic life circulating between floors expressing the desier of the client to be living the family both fixed and splited. The upper floor is formed by wrapping three empty cylinders with corrugated iron, curtains, air, and mirrors. Inside, the cylinders inhabit the “super-interior” of the family, offering total privacy to 9 rooms padded with wood, cotton, linen and silk, and surrounded by “souvenirs”.
The House is in fact made by two houses, one of which is based on The Morris-Greenwald-House of Mies van der Rohe. The T-module of the service piece is maintained in both and repeated as you can see in the plans, either in the underground plan or in the first level. The Underneath house is constructed in concrete to preserve the heaviness, address the need to support the lateral loads of the soil, and to make use of thermic inertia to control the environmental reaction of the seasonal weather changes. The Floating house is emancipated from the soil, and gravity. The cylinders reduce the interchange-surfaces with the exterior. The cylindrical object could be here or any other place. The site was unmeanfull . The house is a generic collection of modern references out side and inside three tangent cylinders connected and wrapped by a continuous skin, enclosing an interior which is organized by the Morris house ideas. This skin is designed as a membrane made by multiple layers that want to breathe by representing the surrounding environment: sun radiation, light as a fluid, and the impact of the noise over the building that comes from the surroundings. The aluminium micro-perforated panels are used to decrease and reduce the radiation received and to break the impact of the noise over the building, while the mirror is working to decrease the impact of the sun radiation and to conduct the light as a fluid reflected by
the mirrored edges of the windows.
