Paprocany lake is the place where inhabitants of Tychy often spend their free time. In the neighborhood of the promenade there is recreation center with recreation and sports attractions. Remodelling focused on exposing values of the landscape and expanding recreational offer for people. Concept is based on wooden promenade located along the bank which is alternately meandering out over the lake and back on the ground. That allows for a different perception of space from various spots of the promenade. Promenade connects with pedestrian/bicycle path running on the back side and descends nearly touching the lake where it is over the water. On a promenade there is an opening with a net streched over the water and benches which could be used as a tribunes for water sport competitions organized on a lake. There is new sandy beach and outdoor gym. The main purpose in selecting materials was to emphasize the natural character of an area by using mainly natural materials. Part of constructions were covered by specially shaped land and planted with grass. To finish off the promenade area we used softwood. Other hardened areas such as bike parkings, places under gym equipment were made from completely water permeable surfaces based on mineral aggregates and EPDM granules. Sections of Promenade which are over the lake are constructed with steel beams founded on reinforced concrete piles hammered into the lake bottom. Terrain is illuminated only by energy-saving LED lights. Land development takes about 2ha on the bank length about 400m.
Paprocany lake is a very important place for inhabitants. Over the years they like spend their free time in this place. Often the inhabitants connect this place with the memories from their childhood when they were using its atractions. The personal memories are associated with spending time with other people: sunbathing with family, swimming with friends, walking with a girlfriend playing volleyball or sailing with friends. Because what makes this place – they are just people. People who are intimated: family, friends, colleagues and people who are known only just by sight or complete strangers. Interactions – this is the point of project. The promenade fosters them. People of all ages relax together on the long seamless benches, younger of them lie on the net streched over the water or they sit in group near the water. Families, people with dogs, runners and tourists they all walk between this sitting people. The bottom-up initiatives are organise here cyclically – buggygym or yoga exercises. At any time of the day and any time of the year this place looks different. During the time only proportions of different group of users are changing and consequently the character of the place becomes different. Sunday summer afternoons with the crowds of walkers, magical sunsets with pairs in love, foggy mornings with the runners … The strength of this place is how it adapts to different audiences. It should be noted that this is not the place "on the way", where people walk by the way – they are here because they intent to. The lake attracts different group of users because of the habitant's memories and beautiful landscapes. The promenade connects them together and promote establishing direct contacts. Due to people this is certainly a living place, and so a collective place.
